Hi everybody at marketing link,

Well first of all i need to comment that there is nothing happening in the site like topics, discussions etc.

Which i expected and that is the reason for me being here, however i am glad that i started off with a topic.

well guys the topic is "if promotional activities at store is a crowd puller or a sale pusher at the store?"

i will look forward for debatable answers and different views from this marketing group.

lets get started

it is a sale pusher activity in stores by the comp... See Kapil's complete reply
hi kapil thanks for starting off, its true that promotional activity at a store is a pusher for sales inside the store, but recently i saw an activity which was performed outside the store but in the premises, which was a major crowd puller, specially because of the loud music and emceeing.
Not only this, if i would create that hype inside store and try and assemble the crowd in one place, will this not be a crowd puller for outsiders who watch it through the glass panel, or hear the music and excitement in the store?

hello vibha ,

you have mentioned that some activity happening in the premises with lot of loud music and emceeing . Now one thing I would like to mention is that what you are talking about is a part of the Integrated Marketing Communication "Noise" and "sound" are the crowd generating factors but are not promotional activities definitely.

And Yes of course if you create that environment within the store it will pull the crowd but the exposure the noise will be restricted.

hi Abhishek,

good point raised!
when i say Emceeing and music, it need not be noise, it can be an event of interest among the public, the overall objective of any promotional activity is to pull the public's attention and when we can agree that music or emceeing can pull in the attention then its nothing but a part of promotional package.
we create noise, true! but in the positive sense to create a hype and interest which is the major objective of any promotional activity.

Ithink both the thing is complementary to each other.
We do in store promotion to pull the crowd and that ultimatelly hikes the sales.
May be in a departmental store if you are running a promotional scheme for a particular department than it can be possible that other depts also gets affected in positive ways.
By promotional activities footfall get increased but sometime does not affect the sales as well.if the economy is not doing well or product catagory is very limited.

Hi Vibha,

I believe the end result of a promotional activity in a Store depends on a number of factors like Day of the week & hour of the day you are conducting the activity, quality, availibility and display of your products, prime positioning of your brand and the Most important factor - Ability of your Sales team to convert the prospects into customers.....

Selling is definitely not an art. Its probably the most perfect science ever known to humanbeing.... You just apply your approach X to customer Y in order to arrive at your desired result Z. All that we need to discover are the variants of these X, Y & Z.

Hence, any promotional event at the store can be converted in to the expected result of pushing sales if all other elements are taken care of....

Comments invited - Devesh

HI everybudy
what i think about promotion is that it is crowd puller...and that is first thing what seller wants.......sales depend after that........because consumer is always rational its all depend on the product.......and the scheme associated with it..........and the other consumer behavior and psychography....or other seasonal factor.................$$$$
